I observed a high-ranking military and civilian official team reached up to the border fencing to talk to the refugees camping on the other side of the border. This team invited the refugees to discuss their problem and come back to their place. Anyhow it is a good sign. What more important is security of life and security of food and security of their properties. People still are fleeing .Many are on the way. If people don’t feel secure, tranquil in the country, how could we expect the refugees to come back.Fresh process of discussion to control the illegal immigrants who are a threat to ethnic people is on progress in parliament. The notion of illegal immigrants is an outdated cliché created by extremists to strip of Rohingya their rights and share their properties. How can we expect refugees to come back to this hellish arrangement?. Historical research and records say Rohingya’s existence is as old as other ethnic races in Arakan. They know well that they were recognized as an ethnic race from the time of General Aung San.They feel forcing them to accept NVC (National Verification Card) is racial persecution.Talking to some refugees could not solve this already internationalized crisis.
Solution is in engaging dialogue with their respected community leaders, not with community betrayers. Current motion in parliament by Rakhine MPs compared the situation with that of 1942 racial conflict, accusing Muslims for killing hundreds of thousands of Rakhines. This accusations are quite in contrast to the records of two senior Rakhine politicians of that period. Bonpauk Tha Kyaw and U Ba San both are Naingan Gunree and Lutlarrey Mawkungwin awardees.,did not described things in their eye-witnessed accounts like the Rakhine MPs in parliament now.
They described armed Rakhine gangs started the riot from Myebon and Myinbya. Hundreds of Muslim villages were burnt down thousands of people were killed. They wrote Muslims fled to Maungdaw area who took some retaliatory action against the minority Rankine. (see,Bonpauk, Tawlenrey Khariway.U Ba San, Rankine nationalities and Myanmar Independence Struggle). What the Rakhine MPs doing in parliament is to hinder and complicate the repatriation process.
